Pre-Conference Options:

Principal's Academy with Muriel Summers

We are also offering the opportunity to attend a pre-conference Principal's Academy with the former principal of A.B. Combs, Muriel Summers.

Please note that the Principal's Academy will be a full day session the day before Symposium starts. It will also continue through the first half day of breakout sessions. But we don't want you to miss anything, so we will be recording all the breakout sessions so that you have access to the ones you missed after the Symposium is over.

Principal’s Academy brings FranklinCovey’s premiere leadership training to principals and education leaders. This inspiring and rigorous two-day training challenges administrators to adopt a leadership paradigm of release, not control.

The workshop focuses on practical skills and tools that participants can apply immediately in their schools, enabling them to align school systems with a shared school vision, unleash staff talent, and become truly great leaders.

Most principals feel that they have far too few opportunities to connect with other principals and learn together. Experts agree that principals need strong peer-support networks. Leader in Me Principal’s Academy is designed to foster collaboration and best-practice sharing. Participants won’t just listen to a presenter but will actively participate in a learning cycle with other principals that includes opportunities for practice and reflection, which will hone leadership skills.

Participants won’t just listen to a presenter but will actively participate in a learning cycle with other principals that includes opportunities for practice and reflection, which will hone leadership skills. During the workshop, participants will be introduced to the Whole-Person Paradigm—a foundation for effective leadership—and the 4 Roles of Great Leaders™: modeling, pathfinding, aligning, and empowering.

They will assess their own strengths and areas of improvement. Participants will learn how to use and apply powerful leadership tools, such as the 4 Disciplines of Execution®, to address chronic problems faced by their schools, with time to lay a framework to implement these leadership skills upon returning to their schools.

The 4 Disciplines of Execution for Educators Pre-Conference

A second option for pre-conference is The 4 Disciplines of Execution for Educators.

As a Leader in Me school, you and your students learn about The 7 Habit of Highly Effective People®. The 7 Habits are profound, and if you strive to live them, they can transform your life and improve the culture of your school.
In addition, Leader in Me schools are taught how to set and achieve goals through the 4 Disciplines of Execution®. Similar to the Habits, these disciplines are also profound. They are based on timeless principles, such as focus, leverage, engagement, and accountability and can help individuals and schools set and achieve wildly important goals.

Knowing the importance of these disciplines to school success, I began working on a book with a few of my colleagues several years ago called The 4 Disciplines of Execution for Educators. I’m happy to let you know that we just finished this book, and I have included a complimentary pre-print copy for you. I encourage you to read it as it will offer simple and practical advice on how to implement these disciplines to improve your school. It’s a short book with lots of full-color images, which makes it a quick read.

In my discussions with educators of late, I keep hearing that learning loss and recovery is a huge concern. We want to help our students make up for what they might have lost. I believe the 4 Disciplines methodology can help you do just that.
